Lunch is Fun.
The strangest store I’ve ever been in… clerks dressed in nursing and doctor uniforms selling what appeared to be rows and rows of the same kinds of candy?
Day ? Lost track… Lots and lots of shopping today along Wangfujing street. Major pedestrian shopping street full of department stores and huge malls. And an alley known as the “snack street”, where you could eat a live scorpion on a stick or a starfish or a seahorse or giant bugs if you wanted to. Of course we skipped those. Seems like a novelty, didn’t see any locals eating that stuff. They were all eating meat off sticks, like kebabs. Pictures coming up. Exhausted again, no idea what’s for dinner tonight. Flying home tomorrow! Ready to sleep in my own bed.
Navigating city streets can be very treacherous around here but we survived. Went shopping at the Silk Market this evening. Accosted at every turn. Hey lady! Lady! Best price for you! And being grabbed by the arm which we really hated. Haggling expected. Paying ¥20 when they ask ¥150 is perfectly normal. If you watch “American Pickers” you would appreciate our “bundling” skills. Six floors in that place! Two was more than enough for us. Had pizza and beer after that.. Delicious! Tomorrow no real plan, maybe Wangfujing Street - where there are department stores and weird food.
On our own today and headed to the Lama Temple, the thing I’ve wanted to see most in Beijing. Happy to be at our own pace today, really tired of the rush rush rush routine. It’s snowing again but doesn’t appear to be sticking, just makes for wet streets. We will be attempting to take the subway today. Seems very easy on paper, hoping that holds true in reality. Wish me luck!
